EVERYTHING YOU WANTED TO
KNOW ABOUT PICKUPS
By Chuck Wells
What 4-wheel-drive pickup is
most likely to be stolen? According to the Highway Loss Data
Institute, it is a Dodge Ram 3500. That’s right. If you own one
of these Rams, someone is out to steal it from you! The next two
most likely to be stolen are the Ford F-350 and Ford F-250.
What 4WD truck is the best to be in so you are not injured
during a car accident? The GMC Sierra 2500 followed by the
Chevrolet Silverado. The worst are the small pickups like Ford
Ranger, Mazda B, and Toyota Tacoma. It makes sense that the
larger the truck, the fewer injuries passengers will sustain in
an accident. That is true for cars too.
The 4WD GMC Sierra 2500 and the Chevrolet Silverado 2500 also
scored the best when it comes to the least damage done to them
at the time of the accident. The Ford F-250 followed with a
pretty good record too.
A few other things about insurance on pickups. The more you pay
for the truck, the higher the car insurance rates. Some people
are surprised that their rates go up when they buy a new truck.
The more the insurance company has to pay out if there is a
claim, the more you will pay in premiums. If you use the truck
for business, it will also cost you more as it is on the road
more than someone just driving to and from work.
If you use the truck for deliveries, the truck should be on a
commercial policy. Don’t play games and try saving a couple of
bucks by putting the truck on your personal auto policy. It will
bite you in the butt later when there is an accident and that is
not the time to have your insurance company tell you to get
lost.
If you have a plow and charge even $1 to plow someone, it
becomes a business and the insurance is different (more
expensive). Once again, make sure you have the right insurance
and if you cannot afford it, don’t plow.
Customized your truck because it’s your baby? Make sure your
insurance company knows about the customization. They will
usually charge a small additional premium and add a special
endorsement onto your policy. If it’s not there, you can
probably kiss your customization costs good-bye when it comes to
making a claim.
LAW OFFICE EMPLOYEE CHARGED WITH THEFT
A 63-year-old lady in Fayetteville, North Carolina was sentenced
to 6 years in prison for embezzling $1.1 million from the law
firm where she worked. The law firm had hired her after she was
convicted of embezzling from another employer and the firm even
defended her in that previous case.
LADY FIGHTS TO KEEP JOB FOR HUSBAND
San Francisco has a very liberal health-care plan for their
employees. I know that may not be a surprise to you. Keep in
mind that California pays education and medical expenses for
illegal aliens and now allows illegals to get driver’s licenses
. They have even proposed giving free college tuition only to
illegals because they are so poor. Anyway, Tammy Haygood, an
elections supervisor, is fighting to keep her job. She was fired
for cost overruns and other problems but she says she needs to
keep her job so her medical insurance can continue to pay for
her husband’s transsexual treatments. And they wonder why
California is going broke.
LADY SUES FOR HER TWO FRONT TEETH
Kara Walton of Delaware sued the owner of a night club after she
fell from a bathroom window and knocked her two front teeth out
on the floor. She thought the night club was negligent in
causing her injuries even though she was sneaking through the
window in order to avoid paying the $3.50 cover charge. A jury
awarded her $12,000 plus dental expenses.
